What am I even Doing?

Alright, so I’m still trying to figure out the direction of this blog, and I know it has been a bit all over the place.  Thanks for sticking with me so far.

Essentially, I want to have easily referenced articles and links for nutrition, meal planning, self care, and exercise. If I can make it funny, I will do that too! It has been a long time since I had to write a lot, so I feel like the first few weeks have been a bit clunky, but that will get easier with time.

I started this whole thing because I’ve been in several support groups. And I didn’t enjoy them.  They were full of people who seemed perfect – or at least presented themselves that way. I felt like my sick, half broken body wasn’t really invited to the party. Everyone was trying to sell me something to “cure” my autoimmune diseases.  Believe me folks, if it worked, I wouldn’t have so many medical bills. I’d be all over that shake/oil/pill/patch/wrap/organic gmo free kale shots/not showering/firstborn sacrificed to the moon goddess nonsense.

I wanted a place where everyone was at least a bit like me. No necessarily just for those with physical or mental illnesses, but for those who just didn’t fit in with the perfect people. For those who don’t get support because of their weight, or because of their identity. And for me, a important part was that I wanted to not make it specifically weight loss centered, but instead, I talk about staying on my plan.  Everyone needs something different. Some of you want or need to lose weight. Some of you want or need to gain weight. Some just want to eat healthier foods. Some of us (like me) have a history of eating disorders and what we need can vary drastically. I never felt I could say that in those perfect groups. I felt like the sympathy was a bit fake. I wanted a place where people say “I’m there for you, and I get it. Don’t beat yourself up about it today. Start new tomorrow. Also, here is a cute cat in Harry Potter glasses.”

It is the daily decisions we make that make our changes. Every day we choose to try again brings us closer to where we want to be. The Facebook page is for that – a daily reminder that pops up, which you can participate in if you so choose, or not, if you aren’t at that point r it isn’t your thing.

I also want SING to focus on self-care, and taking care of what energy you have for the day. Learning how to prioritize our lives and organize them in a way that works for us. You don’t figure life out right away when you turn 18. Things change every day, and we have to modify our current existence to include those things.

All in all, I really wanted somewhere I could go to for support, and I after way too long, I realized it would only happen if I did it myself. So here we are today.  Hopefully what we do on the Facebook site is useful to people, and I hope to back that up with more information and ideas here for people who want it. I’m not going to inundate the Facebook site with a million notifications.

So after this long, serious post, thanks to those of you who are on this journey with me. I will keep on working to get this blog a bit more streamlined and organized, and together we will make those positive changes in our lives.
